TOURNANT. 2020

Tournant is an autobiographical story inspired by my time at the National Ballet Academy. The world of ballet offered me a lot of guidance, rules and technique. It was a very special time in my life and a beautiful profession, however, the demands and ideals made it harder and harder for me to move freely. My body did not live up to the ballet ideal and with this, as a person, I did not live up to the world I wished to belong to. This rejection, combined with the void following years of strict training, resulted in losing myself and hating my body. It was only through the exploration of free dance, where emotion takes priority over aesthetic form, that I rediscovered my freedom in movement. I no longer felt the pressure to conform to an idealised image, allowing me the space to embrace my authenticity.
