A visual experiment in search of what it means to console, to feel consoled, or to look for solace. This experimental film follows three nondescript characters and their attempts to find a place of solace as the world around them rages on. Where mime-theater meets film, a journey of grief, support, and recognition begins.

#Background
Theater creators Anna van Veen, Margit Odems and Marrit Bausch aimed to explore the theme of solace and bring it to life through a film. They approached Jesse-Zé Soepnel and me to join as filmmakers in this project. Capturing ‘solace’ in a non-fictional narrative proved to be a challenge, leading us to delve into various layers of this complex emotion. Think of the precise moment something bad happens in your life, the subcutaneous pain you carry with you afterwards, the loneliness of loss, wanting to lean on others or avoid doing so, trial and error, self-encouragement and finding solace in others going through similar experiences. We abstractly incorporated these elements into the film, translating them into the movement of bodies. As Anna van Veen, Margit Odems, and Marrit Bausch played roles in the film, I directed on set. However, in post-production, they assumed the directorial role and I took on the role of editor.
